Celebrating Student Art
The Bird Tree
By Fletcher Witzigreuter
Fletcher's Bird Tree was on display at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School in 2021! Special thanks to Maria-Louise Coil for organizing and implementing this installation on campus.
Dear Virtual Gallery Viewers,Fletcher Witzigreuter has been studying art with me for a long time, yet I am constantly amazed at how he puts fresh subjects and mediums to work. At the start of 2020, Fletcher wanted to create living art and began a large scale project with that in mind: he embarked on a quest to illustrate several different bird species in different mediums and assemble them together into a taller-than-him work almost seven feet high entitled The Bird Tree.
Think Big!
Mixed Media, twelve to be exact...
Even Covid couldn't stop this project which was partly created remotely and then assembled outside. The result is as original as Fletcher himself and I couldn't be more proud of all the hard work and long hours he put into this twelve-bird-and-medium masterpiece that is now finally complete.
Camilla Tuman
Portraiture
Mixed media marker
I've enjoyed Camilla Tuman's art since she first came to my Paint Box Mystery Camps when she was five years old. Ever creative and curious, she enjoyed making friends as well as art, and singing! Not much has changed in that regard, but Camilla has now blossomed into an eighth grader who also enjoys writing, reading, playing the piano, skiing and sailing; she is always up for an adventure!
I love how Camilla adds her own voice to a subject and uses her imagination, as in these portraits. What is the character thinking, saying or feeling? Learning their expressions and getting to know them through the medium is half the fun. Other subjects she tackled this summer include pet portraits in several different mediums, gem and landscape paintings on canvas and clay sushi! Also, Camilla's generous spirit and sense of humor truly shine when we need them most.
Keep on Creating, no matter what,Ms. Knight

Reyha Parsh
winter landscape
watercolor, artist tape, and salt
Reyha Parsh is a gifted young artist whom I've had the privilege of working with. While we began our lessons in person with Camilla Tuman (see her work next door!), 2020 with its many curve balls soon transitioned us all to the hybrid art format where Reyha has continued to thrive. She is always up for a challenge and brings fresh ideas to each medium we explore together.
For her watercolor landscape, Reyha methodically layered the mediums to achieve a subtle effect. In winter and spring of 2021 she also worked in Sumi inkbrush, acetate light windows using an xacto knife, and egg tempera. I'm so proud of her hard work and can't wait to see what Reyha invents next in the art studio!

Gavin Allvine
Bird Field Guide Illustration
Colored Pencil
In his sophomore year, Gavin Allvine completed an extensive and fully illustrated 50 page Field Guide to the Birds of Blue Heron Nature Preserve.
Having worked with Gavin on his art at Blue Heron Nature Preserve and Georgia Audubon, I can attest that he is an avid naturalist and birder. In fact, Gavin became the youngest Master Birder EVER with Georgia Audubon!! As an e-bird expert, he certainly helps me live the mantra, "We learn most when we're teaching." purchase the Field Guide here. Bird On,Ms. Knight
